In this respect, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers - Manufacturing and Industrial Division (HKIE - MI) held a seminar on the topic "Six Sigma for Engineers - experience sharing" on 20th January, 2006 at the HKIE Headquarters. Positive feedbacks were obtained.

To show the comprehensive applications of the Six Sigma tools, speakers invited for this seminar were management levels from various industries. They worked in well-known corporations, including Mr. LEE and Mr. KONG of CLP Power (HK) Ltd., Mr. LIU of Nokia (HK) Ltd., and Ir. Dr. TONG of TQM CONSULTANTS CO LTD. They shared their invaluable experiences of application of Six Sigma in improvement projects.

During the seminar, Mr. LIU precisely explained Six Sigma on various aspects, including what is it, why use it, how to apply, who use it, etc. Whereas Mr. LEE and Mr. KONG shared their improvement projects experience on the topic "Improved coal pulverizer availability by application of Six Sigma DMAIC approach". Participants were able to understand the concept and application of Six Sigma at work more easily. Another speaker, Ir. Dr. TONG, is well-experienced in improvement project consultancies & trainings, in particular on the Six Sigma topic. He shared his training experience with KCRC on "Business Process Improvement (BPI)". During the workshop, Ir. Dr. TONG guided the participants in applying Six Sigma concepts and tools to examine their existing workflows and identify potential improvement areas, thus work out implementation plans accordingly.

All participants enjoyed the sharing of Six Sigma applications in various industries and understood the effectiveness of Six Sigma approach, believing Six Sigma is a very useful tool for identifying and implementing improvements in business management and operations.
