HKASTRI Strives Towards Excellence With TQM
Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (HKASTRI) is founded by the HKSAR Government in 2001. Its mission is to capture the promises of technological advances for Hong Kong through applied research.

HKASTRI has established an outstanding team and also driven for world-class research projects. Striving for strengthening and improving operations, HKASTRI appointed TQM CONSULTANTS CO. LIMITED as the consultants of ISO 9001:2000. The ISO 9001:2000 project was implemented smoothly, HKASTRI give high remark to TQM: "...Your Consultants have not only guided us to implement the new business processes but also provided us professional input to enhance the overall effectiveness..." - quoted from Dr. Robert J. YANG, HKASTRI's CEO.

To make further sustainable development of HKASTRI, on September, 2006, HKASTRI invited TQM' service again to design and deliver 2 training courses on "Reliability & Maintainability - Weibull distribution modelling" and "Design of Experiment (DOE)" for the R&D staff of HKASTRI,

During the 2 days training, Ir. Dr. Aaron W. K. TONG delivered a concise training on both reliability for product development and DOE. Rather than talking about conventional Classical or Taguchi approach DOE, TQM introduced the Shainin DOE approach, which provides powerful tools for problem solving and quality improvement in an easy way which is a couple of times easier to use than conventional approach.

With live examples and case studies, trainees show high interests on both topics and frequently raised questions to discuss with the trainer. They also actively joined in discussions and gave project examples to share with other trainees. Both reliability and Shainin DOE approach will help HKASTRI R&D staff to develop competitive products and transfer to commercial production.
