Strategic Performance Management through Balanced Scorecard: Local Experience Seminar
Performance is one of the ultimate concerns for modern business and Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a powerful tool for translating an organization’s strategies into action. It can also reflect business performance in different dimensions.

A seminar organized by the Hong Kong Society for Quality, co-organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and TQM Consultants Co. Ltd. was held on 19th December 2003. Mr. Vincent Cheng from TQM Consultants Co. Ltd., Mr. Felix Ng from MTRC and Mr. Davis Liu and Mr. Sammy Wan from Analogue Group had shared their insights on the topic. Mr. Cheng shared with participants his understandings in BSC and his experience in provision of BSC company improvement projects, and this laid the groundwork for the event. Mr. Ng carried on to talk specifically about the implementation of BSC in MTRC and its difficulties and benefits in carrying out such a system. Mr. Liu and Mr. Wan lastly shared with participants the differences between the ISO9001 system and the BSC principles and the experience of implementing the integrated model.

The seminar had attracted participation from foreign electronic and telecommunication corporations, local hospital, government department, construction company and other big enterprises. Though participants had diversified business origins, they nevertheless found the seminar informative and useful in which it provided practical experiences in a well structured manner. Real life evidence of substantial increase in market revenue, customer satisfaction and loyalty and increase in company stock price convinced us that BSC is a powerful tool that can offer benefits in many aspects.
